People-focused
At the heart of the airport sits a Rynek. Unique to Poland and its culture and heritage, this aviation urban space provides the interchange between air, rail and road. The Rynek allows for unprogrammed activities, including pop-up retail local markets, street performance and art creating a central passenger hub.
Inventive
Our phased construction methodology delivers a low carbon footprint and low environmental impact, with a modular design for maximum flexibility as the airport expands. Using the same geometry for all structural elements provided a simple to build, cost-effective solution, future proofing for new technology and modes of transport.
Responsible
The choice of building fabric was key for maximising operational energy efficiency. Extensive roof-lights reduce the need for artificial lighting and provide natural ventilation, a green corridor and green roofs increase biodiversity net gains across the whole of the airport city, while ground source and air source heat pumps deliver renewable power generation.
