People-focused
The Metro Tunnel transforms Melbourne’s rail network by delivering twin 9km tunnels under Melbourne’s CBD and five new stations. The project will revolutionise the perception of Melbourne as an accessible walkable city, with station design focused on an exemplar passenger experience. The stations provide better connections to Melbourne’s key employment, education, healthcare, retail and residential precincts, and allow for easy transfers to City Loop services.
Inventive
The five stations combine functionality, space, and natural light with the latest in public transport infrastructure design to deliver the best passenger experience. The stations follow our ‘Open Metro’ philosophy, ensuring natural daylight and fresh air is combined with a generous, open entrance for people to come and connect with the Metro as an extension of Melbourne’s World Class Public Realm.
Responsible
Sustainability is at the heart of the project, with the aim of better connecting a growing Victoria and delivering lasting economic, environmental, and social benefits. All five stations hold 6 Star Green Star design accreditation from the Green Building Council of Australia, making them some of the most sustainable railway stations in the world.
The Metro Tunnel links many important places in Melbourne and will change the way people move around the city. Not only from station to station, but also in and around the stations which are stitched carefully into each location.
