People-focused
The Innisfil Orbit masterplan was centered around rigorous community engagement, close collaboration with landowners and local government, and a design process where people were at the centre of every decision. We specified core principles from the start that prioritised environmental responsibility, energy type and consumption, high quality built-form, flexibility in design and zoning, transportation and movement, and social and cultural viability.
Inventive
The Innisfil Orbit has become synonymous with its concentric circle shape, which provides connectivity via its road and recreational trail networks and offers safe and convenient access to transit at strategic locations. This shape is guided by a desire to preserve open space; residents are connected through a series of linear and concentric green spine parks, which are linked to multi-modal transit options.
Responsible
Positive social value is attained by maximising opportunities for people to gather and interact, prioritising inclusivity and accessibility and supported by providing diverse employment opportunities securing long-term growth. Nature-based solutions provide biodiversity net gain through preservation, enhancement, and protection of the natural environment. An energy efficient built environment and supply system are designed for climate change resilience.
